Round 19: Tossup 10
Apocryphally, many people miraculously did not notice this object after Duke Otto III of Bavaria dropped it on the road in a barrel. This object partly names a 1659 treatise by Péter Révay titled for “seven centuries” of history. Helene Kottanner stitched this object into a cushion to steal it on behalf of a non-French ruler known as “the Posthumous.” This object has a “Latin” part, and a “Greek” part gifted to Queen Synadene (“sin-ah-DEE-nee”) by Michael VII Doukas. The Hartvik legend, promoted under a ruler called “the Learned,” stipulates that Pope Sylvester II gave this object to Bishop Astrik. A tilted cross tops this object, which the Archbishop of Esztergom (“ESS-ter-gom”) traditionally presented at a ceremony in Székesfehérvár (“SAY-kesh-feh-hair-var”). For 10 points, name this piece of regalia bestowed at the enthronement of kings from the Árpád dynasty. ■END■
