The spectra of these objects form a Pickering series that was first believed to be from rare half-integer transitions in hydrogen. The presence of nitrogen, carbon, and oxygen spectral lines in these objects classifies them into N, C, and O subtypes, (-5[2])which (-5[1])occur with strong ionized helium lines (-5[1])and unusually absent hydrogen lines. (10[1]-5[1])These extremely hot and luminous objects exemplified by Gamma Velorum may transition from AGB or O-type stars due to strong stellar wind.
